A lot of times I'm asked, can the judge make an award of custody in the domestic violence order? The answer is yes. However, that order is very limited in duration. The longest duration of a custody order in a domestic violence case is one year. Additionally, that domestic violence order for custody is subject to modification by a regular civil courtroom hearing.
