Danica Patrick Announces Divorce on Social Media

Race car driver Danica Patrick, who just completed her first season in NASCAR, has announced she is splitting from Paul Hospenthal, her husband of seven years, according to news reports.

Perhaps it’s a sign of the times that the announcement of a planned divorce was made in a public social media forum – Patrick’s Facebook page. She stated:

“I am sad to inform my fans that after seven years, Paul and I have decided amicably to end our marriage,” she said. “This isn’t easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that’s how we will remain moving forward.”

Patrick drove Indy cars before moving to NASCAR. She ran her first full season this year and she finished 10th in points for the Nationwide Series, the highest ranking ever for a female in NASCAR’s three national series. She was just voted the most popular driver in the Nationwide Series.

Patrick met Hospenthal, a physical therapist, while she was being treated for an injury.

The news of the split may have shocked Patrick’s legions of fans, but marital stresses affect every marriage, and perhaps those stresses are greatest for couples who live in the public spotlight.
