The law firm of Charles R. Ullman & Associates is proud to announce the four winners of our 2013 Scholarship Essay Contest.
The contest was open to undergraduate and graduate students at least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a college or university located within the U.S. Participants could choose between writing an essay on the topic of marital domestic violence or marital communication issues.
Our firm received a large number of scholarship entries. The essays submitted displayed strong research and thoughtful reflection on how to address problems relating to spousal abuse and communications between spouses.

Katherine Inhofe is a rising junior studying Architecture at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Aside from her classes, she loves participating in Yale Faith and Action, spending time outdoors, baking, and returning to her hometown of Tulsa, OK. She will use her scholarship to fund her summer internship at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) archives at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, UK. Read her essay here.
Derrick Jones is about to begin his second year at the University of Oklahoma where he is studying Biology and Psychology before attending medical school. Read his essay here.
Brennan is a recent graduate of Loyola University New Orleans with BAs in Psychology and Film & Digital Media. In the fall, she will be attending the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
Kyra Monèt Caldwell, is the founding English teacher at KIPP Atlanta Collegiate. Her educational aspirations brought her to Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. After receiving her Bachelors of Arts in English in 2003, Kyra earned a Masters of Education with a focus in Post-Secondary Education from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2005 and in 2009, she earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching with a focus in English Education, Grades 6-12 from Georgia State University. Currently, Kyra is enrolled at Mercer University, where she will attain a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016. Read her essay here.
